Data?

In the Bible of marketing,

Behold, John 1 vs 1 declares, “In the beginning was the word, and everything else is data.”


Really??

Wait, what? Data?


Data is simply your interests, behaviors, triggers, patterns… 


Data is Anything and Everything. 

Data is the way, the truth, and the life of marketing. 

Everything else falls into line.


With Data; you’re not making guesses; 

You’re able to make better or let’s say calculated ‘assumptions’ 


Who is my customer?

Where is my customer?

You name it…

Data has the answers.


So, Earlier today (20th. Jan. 2023) 

I decided to check out a piano I could consider getting. 

Immediately I dropped off the page, the magic happened.

In just seconds, 

Piano ads started following me. 

First, Piano trainings 

Then, Piano purchase 

Then, piano apps


Data is the new oil, the New Gold of the Digital Era!


This is why every app craves more permissions and every website is always trying to sweet-talk you into accepting ‘cookies.’


Everyone wants to know more about you, your interests, behaviors, triggers, patterns… 

When last you travelled..

When last you bought something online..

What you searched about..


Is this a bad thing?

Well, Yes and No.


Picture two brothers living in separate rooms in a home with a spy.

Brother A, Brother B and Spy. 


Brother A, care’s less about privacy, leaves his door wide open, 

And fully aware of potential spying. 

In this case, spying on Brother A isn’t ethically wrong. 


Now, here’s Brother B, who love’s his privacy and probably likes sleeping naked.. So, he shuts his door.

But the spy, relentlessly, drills a peephole to monitor Brother B. 

In this situation,

Even with good intentions, the use of data becomes ethically wrong. 


So, Consent and intent.


Now, as a Growth, Marketer, Advertiser…


You should know ‘how’ to use ‘data’ to your advantage.

If Marketing, Advertising is a Bread

Then Data should be your ‘Butter’
